Walking trails

Most of the trails within Wendover Woods start and finish close to the central car park. Pick up a leaflet from site or download the map to help you navigate your way around the woods.

Highway Rat

The Highway Rat is the latest Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler book to be brought to life on our forest trails. Follow panels and interact with the forest as you head on a journey with The Highway Rat and all the characters from the story. This is now live in Wendover Woods. To sign up for more information visit this link.

Please note that The Gruffalo Trail was removed at the end of November 2017. The Gruffalo Statue however still remains and can be found at the location designated on our Map. Our New Trail is The Highway Rat Trail, it is a story written by the same author as the Gruffalo. The Highway Rat Trail Activity Packs can be purchased from the Café

Cycling

We have a family cycle trail which is perfect for exploring the woods by bike.

Go Ape Tree Top Adventure

Enjoy two to three hours of adventure high above the forest floor! Fly down zip-wires, leap off tarzan swings and tackle a variety of obstacles whilst enjoying breathtaking scenery. Min age 10yrs and min height 1.4m. For more information and to book visit Go Ape Tree Top Adventure.

Go Ape Tree Top Junior is a jam-packed hour of wobbly bridges, intricate crossings and an awesome zip wire finale. It's designed with the whole family in mind. The perfect high ropes course for kids as well as mum, dad and the grandparents. If you're looking for family fuelled fun, challenge each other to see who can cross the tree tops in style – we’re talking backwards, no hands, the works! Are you ready? Let's do it. Go Ape Tree Top Junior.

Play

Due to our ongoing redevelopment project there is no formal play provision in Wendover Woods, however we can offer amazing opportunities for wild play everywhere in the woods. For younger visitors the Highway Rat trail and the den-building area are available, and we are soon opening a Gruffalo orienteering course. Later this year we will be building a brand new adventure play trail which will include a number of specially commissioned pieces designed to suit the site.

What do other visitors say?

I'm gutted to see the forestry commission now stopping the free parking voucher that we used to collect from our Chilterns society magazine. Is this in order to recoup as much money as possible from the new developments? It's such a shame and doesn't look good on the forestry commission. Can you also let me know if Chiltern society members still get a discounted discovery pass or has this now been cancelled too?

Neil R, 29/Aug/2018

Thank you for the comment. The car parking system in the woodland has changed and we are currently in discussions with the Chiltern Society, so we hope to have further detail in the near future.

MORE DOG BINS URGENTLY

L Brooks, 20/Aug/2018

Thank you. We have a number of bins located on site, but we are in a period of transition and will review the situation once all the works are completed. At this point a new map will be published. For current locations, please see the information point staff.

Are BBQ's still in use ? I saw a large group using one on Saturday in the BBQ area, and no signs saying otherwise, and no warden to consult, but it seems quite a risk, everything is tinder dry. Cheers.

Anonymous, 6/Aug/2018

The free BBQ area is still in use. All the stands are set in stone to prevent accidental fires. There is also regular monitoring on site. Our fire rating is now High from Extreme but we will continue to monitor.
