Explore Cannop Ponds
(Average user rating: 5 unrated 4.3/5)

A series of manmade ponds lie in the Cannop Valley.

Located beside the middle pond there is a large grassed area ideal for family games and picnics.

The popular fishing lake is an idyllic spot to view local birdlife, including Mandarin ducks.

A couple enjoy the view at Cannop Ponds, Forest of DeanThe car park provides good access to the Family Cycle Trail, cyclists are requested to stick to this trail rather than using the pondside paths.

The ponds are leased to Yorkley Angling Club for fishing, day tickets can be purchased from the club bailiff at the bankside.  Please note there is a close season in place from Mid March to May each year.

Please keep dogs under control and out of the water when fishermen are present.

A mobile catering unit is on site daily in the Gloucestershire school holidays from 11am - 4pm and every weekend throughout the year.  Silvia Davis Refreshments serve hot food and drinks plus cold drinks, snacks and ice creams.  Specials include Wild boar sausage or Venison sausage on a fresh long roll.

What do other visitors say?

Can I ask if it is permissible to use a canoe on the ponds?

Andy, 29/Jun/2018

Boats, canoes etc. are not permitted at Cannop Ponds. Mallards Pike Lake can be booked by groups for canoe, kayak or raft building activities. Individual boaters and swimming are not permitted.

Forestry Commission Response

Cannot understand why there are no postcode references for the start of any of your walks. As first time visitors here it makes finding these beautiful ares very difficult to find.

Anne Richards, 21/May/2018

Thank you for your comments, unfortunately postcodes aren't accurate enough in this location, which is why we don't include them for all of our visitor sites.
