The dark outline of Simonside dominates the middle reaches of Coquetdale. For thousands of years, people have been drawn to this landmark, on occasions to bury their kinsfolk in stone-lined graves (cists). Today, walkers from all over the region are attracted by the dramatic views. The Ridge Walk climbs to the top of Simonside Crag (419 metres), where a spectacular 360-degree panorama of the Cheviots and of the whole of the Northumbrian coastline is revealed on a fine day.

Loved this walk. We when thinking it would be a reasonable forest walk to break our journey. What a wonderful surprise to find fantastic views from a low level ridge walk. The paths upto and on the ridge were excellent, there's obviously been a lot of work put into these - well done.

I really love walk, even my little Corgi manages the climb well. I reccomend this walk to people all of the time as though it can be challenging, it's well worth it!
Hi there wanting to take my border collie for a walk found simonside today just wondering if there is any sheep around the crags as I don't want to disturb then due to lambing season
Forestry Commission Response
The top of Simonside is a very important site for ground nesting birds and all dogs must be on a short lead at this time of year to avoid disturbance
