Trail description

This walk circles the whole forest, and takes in some of its most beautiful areas. A perfect walk if you want to get away from it all and enjoy the ancient woodlands surrounding you. It uses a combination of surfaced and unsurfaced routes, so walking boots are recommended. Please be aware that horseriders and cyclists share part of its route.

The trail can get extremely muddy during Winter months, so please dress accordingly.

What a beautiful walk. Just loved it. It was so peaceful and we saw a deer too. Highly recommended and pretty dry and not too muddy.

Took 2 hours 20 mins. Brian is very tired and currently in bed. He got very wet jumping in and out of the steams. NB Brian is a Labrador!

Your website fails to give any information about the wildlife that may/is likely to be present in the Forest.

John, 15/Mar/2017

Hello, There is a "Wildlife and Environment" page, which is part of the "About Salcey Forest" section: https://www.forestry.gov.uk/forestry/infd-8lvegp This is only indicative and we hope to have a more comprehensive description in the future.

Forestry Commission Response

Did this walk today and whilst quiet and beautiful it is a quagmire at the moment. I nearly lost a boot!

Hello, We're glad you enjoyed the walk and did not lose a boot! Unfortunately, with the Forest being on clay soil it can get very saturated in places at this time of year, which is why we advise people to dress accordingly.
