Explore Hurst Wood
(Average user rating: unrated unrated)

Incorporating some of Greater Manchester’s oldest clough woodland, this former farm was recently planted and landscaped to create what is now a maturing broadleaved woodland connected by a superb path network.

Hurst Wood has fanstastic views across the Irwell Valley to Manchester and Winter Hill. Paths through the site include plenty of picnic benches, if you want to stop and have a rest. Popular with dog walkers and cyclists alike, there is an abundance of wildlife including deer, rabbits, birds and butterflies.

Hurst Wood links in to the Outwood trail - a 4 km route for walkers, cyclists and horse riders along a former railway line between Prestwich and Radcliffe, passing attractive, ancient clough woodlands.
The Irwell Sculpture Trail is also found along the Outwood Trail, which follows an existing 30-mile footpath up the Irwell Valley Way stretching from Salford Quays, through Bury, into Rossendale and up to the Pennine Moors. The sculpture trail is the largest public art scheme in the North West and includes the work of more than 50 artists.
