Beautiful place to visit. I am a carer and I took my elderly lady who uses a wheelchair there yesterday. We did the red trail (the long one!) and it was very accessible and comfortable for her. Afterwards we had a coffee and a sandwich at the cafe which was very reasonably priced.

I would've given our visit 5 stars however my only disappointment was that even though we have a blue badge for the car park, you still have to pay the full parking fees. You don't actually know this until you are through the barrier and in the car park!

We did the Forest Survival Day with Nigel (the guide). Very informative, good fun. My 9 year old boy loved the slow worms, building fires and a den and generally learning about he forest. Nigel was very engaging with the children and good fun.

Wow...what a great place to come and adventure. The woods were huge, we met some monsters (they weren't that scary, we posted photos on your facebook page). Even in the rain we had a great time. This place is very dog friendly. Our humans said the staff were very friendly, informative and helpful. At the very start they gave the humans a map and suggested suitable walks we would all enjoy, explained about the on-lead/off lead rules and crossed off parts of the map which would be too boggy to enjoy walking through. They had dog drinks available in nice clean bowls too while the humans chatted. The walking was fab, we met a stick man and two gruffalo monsters. Saw some other dogs and people enjoying the great outdoors. The rain didn't bother us and the staff took us to a handy hose pipe after we managed to find some mud to play in ready for our car journey home. We will be coming back. Fab day out, thanks to all who work there. Woof woof!!!

Is it possible to do the trail with a pushchair? I have a 1, 3 & 5 year old.

Mary, 3/Apr/2016

Thank you for your enquiry. The trail is on the Easy Access Discovery Trail which is pushchair and wheelchair friendly.

Forestry Commission Response

I am just enquiring how long the stuck man/Gruffalo's child trails will run for?

Thank you.

Ali, 30/Dec/2015

Thank you for your enquiry. The Stick Man Trail will be open on site well into the spring and the spring break. The Gruffalo Trail has finished but the statues of the Gruffalo and Gruffalo’s child can be found on the Stick Man Trail.

Folks, why not have an easy to find set of "opening times" over the festive period, with any limitation on services or times etc?!

I've looked carefully on the website without success, aside from the response to a question, there seems to be a dearth of information, even in the "Alice Holt at Christmas section"

Chris, 26/Dec/2015

Thank you for your comments, our opening times do vary due to the seasons, we will investigate putting this information in a more user friendly area of the website. For your future information our opening hours are: Alice Holt Forest is open 364 days a year (closed Christmas Day) The site opens at 8am and will close at: 5pm (December – February) 6pm (March) 7pm (April) 9pm (May – September) 7pm (October) 6pm (November)

We love coming here! My children (2 and 4) enjoyed the new stick man trail and seeing the gruffalo. We have a yearly pass which is really good value for money. The kids always find something else to do.

Staff is very friendly and engaging

Chrissy, 18/Dec/2015

Are car parking charges still in force on Boxing Day and New Years Day? I understand you are not open on Christmas Day

Bob, 14/Dec/2015

Thank you for your question. We can confirm that Alice Holt is closed on Christmas day and that normal car parking charges will apply on Boxing Day and New Years Day.

Emily, Alice Holt Inclusive Cycling has a large range of adapted bikes for people with disabilities and we are at the forest every Thursday morning come rain or shine. At other times our bikes can be hired through the Bike Hire company at Alice Holt.

Peter , 27/Sep/2015

We used to enjoy hiring the accessible cycles for our severely physically disabled son - but now this is no longer running it excludes us from cycling in the forest. How do we become members of one of these "committed groups" who access accessible cycling in the forest please?

Without this it means we can now only access one of the trails in Alice Holt. This combined with the high parking rate means Alice Holt is unfortunately a far less attractive day out for us, which is a shame. Once gain, disabled visitors and their families are facing exclusion. I'm very disappointed.

Emily, 20/Sep/2015

Thinking of meeting some friends with kids tomortow at the adventure playground and then walking a trail. Are there any restrictions on me bringing my dog too? I don't want to spoil the experience for the kids if the dog can't go everywhere, but it will be a long day for her if I leave her behind!

Alison, 18/Aug/2015

Thank you for your comment. Dogs are welcome at Alice Holt in all areas other than Playwood play area. We do request that dogs must be under control at all times.

We have been coming to Alice Holt for 25 years and it's amazing. Our family love all the great things, squirrel spotting and the nature trails. Hoorah for Alice Holt.

We have been coming to Alice Holt for nearly 20 years and each visit is great. We only live about 15 minutes drive away. We come throughout the year and each season changes to what we see and do. We have come here to collect our Christmas Trees and for many years we would come for a New Years Walk to clear our heads from the New Years Parties the night before. We have used the Go Ape for a Hen celebration, 18th Birthday and tried the mini Go Ape for my daughter when she was 5. The cafe has provided us with hot drinks on those very cold days and cold drinks and ice creams on lovely summer days. We have also had snacks and meals which were all very nice. We used the cycle hire once. All the staff over the years have been polite, helpful and cheery. Would recommend for all ages and abilities. I also have come here through work as an assistant at a disabled school over 10 years ago and the paths and facilities were great. With all the new work that is going on, Alice Holt will literally be able to cater for everyone, any ability! Well done to all involved, my family will be coming regularly for another 20 years at least.

We go to Alice Holt a lot through the year and it just our favourite place to go. For the whole day you can pay around 8 for parking and then that is your day paid for. Or you can get the Discovery Pass which makes parking even cheaper if you visit a lot. We went to the Winter Wonderland and it was just lovely. The staff couldn't be more helpful and as we had 3 month old twins with us as well as our 3 and 7 year old it was great. They even let us back in at the end so the twins could meet Father Christmas and have a picture with him which was really special for us. We just love this place and we recommend it all the time. If you haven't tried it, go to Moors Valley as well which is similar.

My first time at AH today and really enjoyed the setting and the walks but, I have to say I was disturbed at the amount of dog mess we encountered especially with all the young children about.

MR Not a dog walker, 15/Feb/2015

We encourage dog owners to be responsible and clean up after their pets and there are several dog bins provided. Please help us to keep the forest clean and tidy for everyone to enjoy.

I have to say some reviews I had read online really concerned me, and another person I spoke to whilst we were waiting to go into the experience said the same thing. However, if the reviews were accurate, things have been improved since then and we enjoyed our visit.

I felt the staff were smiley and friendly. The lights were lovely, you can never have enough fairy lights! So adding more in future years would make it even better!

You then enter a large yurt and watch hear a little story by some dressed up animal characters, their outfits could have been improved, a bit tired looking, but that's an adult opinion...kids just aren't as picky, they all loved it and joined in with the jumping about etc.

The time we spent doing the craft items, was spot on, not sure if you went in before us or after you may have felt different, but for us it was just right.

The Father Christmas visit was amazing, he looked just as Father Christmas should do, loved that he took notes and had a good little chat with my son, he was one of the best I have ever seen. The little gift was wrapped. My son has amazingly decided to save opening it until Christmas Day!!! But from what I haas I think it was a cuddly toy.

The sleigh and reindeer was a nice added touch and to get a little handful of free feed to give them was good (some places would charge extra, but that's just being mean!) there was time to sit in the sleigh after and take some photo's which was lovely.

We were a bit lost regarding were to go to get use our token for a free berry drink and gingerbread man, so maybe as you get given the reindeer food it would be good to be reminded to use the card and be told were to go and redeem it, it was pretty dark and as we had never been to Alice Holt before, we were a bit unsure.

All in all, a great time was had by all, so glad the rain held off.

I would definitely consider going next year.

I visited winter wonderland on Friday. Unfortunately I lost my white iPhone 5 during the visit. If someone found it could they kindly contact me on anthsmit@me.com

Many thanks, Anthony

Anthony Smith, 21/Dec/2014

Hello can we come and walk the winter wonderland with paying to do all the stuff ? Thanks

Anonymous, 17/Dec/2014

We visited the winter wonderland today and our children, six in all from 4-8 years old all loved it. We went at 4 so the lights looked lovely too, enjoyed the time with Santa, thought he was very good, not much time to do the arts and crafts but came away with some to do later. No complaints for the money we paid we we're happy. Merry Christmas

The wellmans, 7/Dec/2014

Are you selling Christmas trees again this year?

Father Christmas ho ho ho, 24/Nov/2014

Yes. 9.30-5pm at Alice Holt. Pine, fir and spruce available.

Today we visited Winter woodland to see Santa. It was a terrible experience that lasted 40 mins. You walk through some trees and try and spot the lights as there were so little. Then it's into a tent, where you are packed in like sardines to watch a story about a bear. It was so awful and rubbishy. Then you are packed into another room to colour for 5 mins. That's if you can get to any art stuff. Then through to santa to receive a bear that we thought would at least be wrapped up. The website shows a picture of snow and if wooden soldier toys. I can't believe this cost us 38! Winter woodland! More like depressive woodland! Never again!

Winter woodland disapointment, 22/Nov/2014

We're sorry you had a disappointing experience. We are noting comments from Winter Woodland customers and feeding them back to the organisers.

Just had a wonderful morning with my three kids and a spare making staffs! Fabulous explanations and great care taken by Jane and Jackie to ensure children enjoyed themselves. A real treat for them to use grown up tools! Having enjoyed many of the classroom activities including willow sculptures, bird feeders and woodland creatures this has to be our favourite. What a pleasure to be amongst staff that thoroughly enjoy their jobs and pass on their enthusiasm to the kids. Always five stars. Thank you ladies x

I think we must have even at a completely different site to other reviewers! We brought the whole family (8 children, from 7 months to 8 years and we had a wonderful time. The trail was fairly short so perfect for little boys who wanted climb every tree and find sticks to play sword fighting, snooker, and wizards. They then ran off more steam in the adventure playground. Plus the excitement of a picnic.......and a Gruffalo.......a pretty much perfect day out, I think. Thank you!

I visited on wednesday and paid the two pounds for the trail leaflet, i was supporting a lady who is reluctant to walk, and her main focus was to see the characters, we saw the fox and the snake and then we came across a post short route/long route, and we were surprised not to see anymore character and no info to say if you take the short route you will see nothing, you also should not be charging to do it when the actual grufalo was wrapped in plastic :( yesterday i arrived with a different person i support and found the disables accesible bikes available, this was excellent we had a great time but camping at woodlarks campsite in Farnham we found it sad that there is nothing advertised about the amazing selection of disabled accessible bikes available for free on thursdays from 9am till 1pm on your website! the chap doing the loaning was a real star! thanks bit of a mixed bag! Gayle from Tiverton, ps we hope to see the gruffalo at Haldon forrest park

Anonymous, 6/Jun/2014

Thank you for myour comments and we're sorry you were disappointed. The signs for the Gruffalo trail actually say keep going and have an arrow at the point you mention. The short and long route are the Easy Access Trail signs which are there permanently. The Gruffalo was wrapped up ready for his unveiling session on the following day. There is no charge for the trail. The leaflet is optional. However, we're aware of the shortcomings and have taken account of them for the trail we plan in the autumn.
