Rowney Warren is lovely but sadly spoilt by dogs mess. Why are owners so irresponsible?! It's not hard to pick it up! I have a small child and we spent the entire time avoiding poo - it was everywhere. This is the second time I've been this year and both times it has been as bad. I won't be returning now, such a shame that some selfish people ruin it for others

Omg, I can't believe how lazy dog owners are, Rowney Warren isn't a nice place to walk because of dog mess everywhere. PICK IT UP, don't be selfish, think of others who want to enjoy walking in these woods. Perhaps dogs should be kept on leads then the owners will know where their dogs have messed and maybe they will pick it up! DISGUSTING.

Always loved Rowney Warren to walk and bike in, but have just been for a walk today with the children and pretty disgusted at the amount of dog mess left by owners on the paths and particularly round the picnic area next to the car park-its a big concern for us with the children running around and a pity people are so selfish.

On 18/9/16, visited Rowney Warren, 3 adults and 2 children. Of that party, 3 managed to tread in dog poo. This excrement was all over the place. Similar sites do not have this problem, why do you? Dog owners clear up drive perhaps?

Thanks for the comments. Rowney Warren is heavily used by dog walkers and most of these are responsible dog owners who clear up. We continue to encourage good dog behaviour using our staff and wardens who keep an eye out and tackle irresponsible behaviour. I am sorry you had a bad experience and we will look into other measures we can take to improve things.

Stanford wood used to be a lovely little woods. However now the car park is closed off, the paths have become very overgrown with nettles and brambles and the access to park is v limited. In addition we walked there yesterday and the pond is now taped off... Is there a reason for this? I've been wLking those woods for 18 years, it's a shame to see it so neglected. Is there a cmmunity group that is responsible for maintaining these woods? I'd be v interested in volunteering, it's such a shame to see a lively woods become so neglected.

The car park was closed as it was being used for anti-social behaviour and persistent fly-tipping. Rowney Warren Wood, nearby off the A600, has a large car park if you are looking for somewhere with more parking. We will investigate the tape round the lake.

Just been for a walk here with my 2 year old twins and will not go back. It is disgusting! Every foot step is dog mess. It is unsafe for children to be playing there given the illnesses you can catch from dog mess. The owners need to pick up after their pets but the Forestry Commission need to do something as this is unacceptable! I used to come here as a child but will now avoid! PARENTS BEWARE NOT SUITABLE FOR LITTLE ONES WHO MIGHT FALL OVER!

I am sorry you had a disappointing visit. We do now have two dog bins installed in and adjacent to the car park and have put up posters to make dog owners aware of the need to clear up after their pets. We also have diligent wood wardens who, along with our staff, reinforce positive dog behaviour in the woodland.

I have used Rowney Warren many times for mountain bike riding and have enjoyed, however went out last Friday and was appalled by the state of the trails, all over grown some were unusable and other you ended up with your arms and legs getting cut due to the bramble bush being hidden by the fern leaves. You promote this side of the woods for cyclists and therefore should ensure the trails are kept clear at all times if not put a sign up to say closed due to over growth of foliage. I know this year had been good conditions for plant growth but this is the worse I have ever seen these woods. So if this can be sorted it would be much appreciated by all cyclists who use Rowney warren regularly

Thank you for the feedback. Vegetation growth has been much more vigorous and speedy this year. We'll take a look and get work into our programme.

Agree with the comment Ian M 28/Sep/2016. Started using the walking woods for dog walks a year ago and it was our favourite location. However, since the stick and flick ruling/signs were up (I guess the notices requesting people clear up are now obsolete), it has just turned into a giant dog bin. It is everywhere and difficult to avoid as camouflaged with the pine cones. This is not the right policy for this wood. It works a bit better for Ashridge estate (the first place I saw it), but that is a completely different woodland and a lot larger. Despite Rowney Warren being a great place for families to spend some time, I would not recommend it now

Used to visit Chicksands Rowney Warren lots as a child and have many fun memories, however having taken my own 2 children last weekend (September 2015) my wife and I were hugely disappointed. The amounts of dog poo was overwhelming, with dog cr@p every foot or two along the path! We had to keep our children next to us to avoid stepping in it, making the visit pointless as it was an opportunity for them to explore and have fun. While we appreciate that the woods are for everyone to enjoy, there was a distinctive attitude towards "nobody else picks up their dog crap, so why should I?". Very disappointing and a real let down to those that do make the effort to clean up their dog mess.

I am sorry you had a disappointing visit to the woods. This is a very popular site for dog walking. We have had two dog bins installed near the car park, and we have put up notices requesting visitors clear up after their dogs. We continue to work on improving the site for visitors, including reducing dog mess.

Stanford wood, a nice little wood between Clifton, Stanford and Southill no longer has a car park. It has a big, permanently-locked metal gate. This is because the place was being misused. All rather sad.

Car park now locked permanently, 8/Mar/2015
