We are planning a visit with a wheelchair user. Where in the forest would be good for a stroll and and cup of tea with wheelchair access. Many thanks.

Johann, 9/Apr/2017

The best route to use would be from the High Lodge Forest Centre, for more information contact 0300 067 4500.

Am I right in thinking you have designated bbq areas please? How do you go about getting one please if so. Can you reserve as we travel a bit of a way or is it first come first serve. Was planning on bringing a fair few people for my daughters 4th birthday next month. Many thanks

Hi guys,

Silly question, I know, but unfortunately I've never been before - does Thetford Forest have any streams or rivers at all? I would love to do a photograph a forest scene amongst still or flowing water and wanted to check before I came!

Many thanks,

Sophia.

Sophia, 23/Jan/2017

St Helen's Picnic Site or Lynford Water are great places to photograph water. If you are conducting a photography class or doing this as a business please contact us for guidance.

Would I be able to get a chain saw and cut up deadfallen trees, and use the wood in my fireplace at my house to stay warm this winter?

terry kelley, 11/Sep/2016

Thank you for checking this out with us. Unfortunately you are not allowed to use a chainsaw to cut up fallen trees on the public forest estate. Thetford Forest is a Special Protection Area for wildlife and fallen dead wood is valuable habitat. Timber grown on the estate is harvested under strict guidelines and sold to sustainably manage the forest for all. Unmanaged chainsaw activity in the forest would also place other forest users at risk.

Hi, I visited the forest for the day on Saturday and managed to lose my sunglasses, I was wondering if there is someone I could speak to to see if they have kindly been handed in?

Thank you

Would you consider having a discovery pass that covers all the forests. Our nearest is Bedgebury but we are quite often in Suffolk as well so we visit Thetford.

Emma Roberts, 5/Aug/2016

Thank you for your idea. I'll pass it on to our Discovery Pass Team.

Anonymous, 27/Feb/2016

Visited high lodge yesterday for lunch unfortunately refurbishment was being carried out with a lot of noise, the toilet block was closed, had we known this in advance would have visited at a different time, and would not have wasted 2.20 for ten minutes parking.

Cleo, 12/Jan/2016

.

Hi, I've just come across your page by chance. - Wow, you're having a beautiful forest

Looks like the ones we have in Germany. Many forests over here are huge, solitary and silent. Providing you have chosen the proper route you can walk for a day without meeting anybody on your way.

The next time I'll be in Britain I'll be inspecting Thretford Forest ...

Kind regards,

Gnther

Gnther Parschau, 7/Jan/2016

How much dose it cost for vans to park in the car park?

Anonymous, 3/Jan/2016

Hi there. My wife does an activity in her pushbike like sledging. Where her dog pulls her along. I am just wondering if this is something she can do at high lodge on the mountain bike trails. I can't find any info regarding this on your website. But just wanted to make sure.

Jack, 6/Oct/2015

This would be classified as a hazardous activity and is therefore not permissible at High Lodge on any of the trails or elsewhere without a formal permission. For further information please contact the Thetford Forest Ranger.

Can you park before 5pm on 2nd July?

Sarah, 23/Jun/2015

You can park on site before 5pm but you may have to ask one of our team where to park if you are staying for our forestlive event.

Forestry Commission Response

Hi, we are coming to watch the script on the 2nd July, we have never visited the forest before. Can you please advise if the road to/from the event is pavemented and lit i.e. safe to walk when the concert finishes? Also, can you recommend any local taxi firms as our hotel is around 15 minutes away.

Thanks

Sam

Sam, 17/Jun/2015

Roads are rural and unlite so not suitable for walking. Details about taxis are on our website for the gigs location at forestry.gov.uk/music

Forestry Commission Response

Could you please let me know if any bus/train goes directly from Cambridge city Centre or from Bar Hill to Thetford forest?

I have checked googlemaps but could not get clear information.

I do not drive so the option of car is out. Taxi would be too expensive.

I am planning to visit the forest for half a day on 18th June

Deep, 23/Apr/2015

Trains from Cambridge to either Brandon or Thetford either side of the forest. Taxi from either to High Lodge.

Forestry Commission Response

Please advise if there are tracks in the forest where motorcycles are allowed.

Karan Bathh, 21/Apr/2015

Just observed a white deer feeding along the forest line while driving to work. Live opposite the forest but never realised such a beautiful and mystical animal was so close.

Rob O, 10/Apr/2015

That's the magic of Thetford Forest.

Forestry Commission Response

I was wondering if I need any kind of permission for a couple of days hiking in the forest with my own tent, and also whether is there any problem in doing a controlled fire for cooking.

Thanks in advance

Albert, 27/Mar/2015

You fre to walk, but camping in the forest and the use of fire/flame for cooking is not permissible under the Forestry Commission Bylaws 1982.

Visited the forest on Saturday 14th of March, had a lovely walk with our dogs, what a beautiful place to go ! Upon leaving drove towards Brandon and was pleasantly surprised to be escorted by a group of muntjack deer and the elusive larger white deer leaping along the side of us...quite special !!

Ruth and Terry, Northampton, 16/Mar/2015

Diana Brooks Smith, 21/Jan/2015
