We can now confirm that the whole site, including all waymarked trails and car park, will be closed from early October 2017 for approximately three months.

Our operations will take place Monday to Friday but the site will remain closed on weekends – the trails will be unsafe and not suitable for use.

For your own safety, public access is not allowed until work is finished and we re-open the site. We will keep you up to date with progress.

Stainburn Moor car park is still available to use

For safety reasons cyclists using the unofficial cleared lines in Norwood Edge please access the forest from Stainburn Moor car park.

Stainburn is a largely coniferous woodland on the edge of Nidderdale AONB, close to Harrogate and Otley. It consists of two parts, a mixed pine, larch and spruce area on the sloping ground of Norwood Egde, and a more extensive plataeu of spruce with some areas of scots pine and larch to the east.

There are several mountain bike routes in the west of the wood which can be accessed from the Norwood Edge car park. There is an additional well-used car park at Stainburn Moor.

Forestry Commission Response

I found the caravan and hut to - the looked very spooky in the misty evening. Both are wrecked and badly ragged up. Would be a good spot for the Forestry lot to have a BBQ though - although we would need signposts to get in and out!
