Foliar analysis service - Overview of procedures

Chemical analysis

The foliage sampling procedure is designed primarily for commercial plantations of Sitka spruce, Lodgepole and Scots pine in upland Britain, but also includes reference to larch and broadleaved amenity trees.

Foliage analysis results on their own may not enable the production of a correct prescription if requested and it is essential to complete a Site Record Form (PDF-84K) for each site sampled. Site record forms should be dispatched with the foliage samples to Alice Holt.

The samples are analysed at Alice Holt, but prescriptions, which will attract an additional charge, will be prepared by Forest Research Technical Services.

Fertiliser prescription

Where the "Fertiliser prescription required" box has been ticked, the site record forms and results of analysis will then be forwarded by the Forest Research Environmental Research Laboratory to Bill Rayner, the Forest Research site surveyor, who will send a fertiliser prescription to you.
