Forest Resilience is the programme that Forestry Commission England (FCE) is currently developing to determine the actions required due to:
- Dothistroma Needle Blight (DNB)
- The status of the Special Protection Area (SPA)
- Climate Change
The programme covers mainly the area known as Thetford Forest, but there may be wider reaching implications to the rest of East England Forest District (EEFD).
FCE is looking to develop a response that is appropriate and focused on the future of the forest. This may mean some significant changes in the way Thetford Forest will be managed into the future. However, FCE is acutely aware that it has both formal and moral commitments in managing the forest, and therefore intends to consult on this change process.
This programme is significant to the FCE for both EEFD and also nationally. It is important that the programme is built on a solid foundation, with a clear evidence base for any changes.
This programme is still in its early stages, and more information on how the programme will unfold is being developed at present. However, if you do wish to remain involved in this process, please sign up to the FC EEFD database to receive updates.
