EU imports - Protected zones - Conifers

Zone: United Kingdom, Greece and Ireland

Species: coniferous wood and isolated bark of conifers.

Requirements: Wood shall be bark-free, or accompanied by an official statement (plant passport) confirming that:

(a) it originates in an area which is known to be free from Ips amitinus (small spruce bark beetle); or

(b) in the case of

 i. wood, that it has been kiln dried to below 20% moisture content and a mark of ‘Kiln Dried’ or ‘KD’ put on the wood or its packaging; or

ii. in the case of isolated bark, that it has been subjected to an appropriate treatment against bark beetles.

Zone: United Kingdom and Ireland

Species: coniferous wood and isolated bark of conifers

Requirements: The wood shall be bark-free, or accompanied by an official statement (plant passport) confirming that:

(a) it originates from an area which is known to be free from Ips typographus (eight-toothed or European spruce bark beetle); or

(b) in the case of

i. wood, that it has been kiln dried to below 20% moisture content and a mark of ‘Kiln Dried’ or ‘KD’ has been put on the wood or its packaging; and

ii. in the case of isolated bark, that it  has been subjected to an appropriate treatment against bark beetles.

Zone: United Kingdom (Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and Jersey), Ireland and Greece

Species: coniferous wood and isolated bark of conifers.

Requirements: Wood shall be bark-free, or accompanied by an official statement (plant passport) confirming that:

(a) it originates from a place which is known to be free from Dendroctonus micans (great spruce bark beetle); or

(b) in the case of

i. wood, that it has been kiln dried to below 20% moisture content and a mark of ‘Kiln Dried’ or ‘KD’ has been put on the wood or its packaging; or

ii. in the case of isolated bark, that it has been subjected to an appropriate treatment against bark beetles.

Zone: United Kingdom (Northern Ireland and  Isle of Man), Ireland and Cyprus

Species: coniferous wood and isolated bark of conifers.

Requirements: the wood shall be bark-free, or accompanied by an official statement (plant passport) confirming that:

(a) it orginates from an area which is known to be free from Ips sexdentatus (six-toothed bark beetle); or

(b) in the case of

i. wood, that it has been kiln dried to below 20% moisture content and a mark of ‘Kiln Dried’ or ‘KD’ has been put on the wood or its packaging; or

ii. in the case of isolated bark, that it has been subjected to an appropriate treatment against bark beetles.

Zone: United Kingdom (Northern Ireland, Isle of Man), Ireland and Greece

Species: coniferous wood and isolated bark of conifers

Requirements: Wood shall be bark-free, or accompanied by an official statement (plant passport) confirming that:

(a) it orginates from an area known to be free from Ips cembrae (large larch bark beetle); or

(b) in the case of

i. wood, that it has been kiln dried to below 20% moisture content and a mark of ‘Kiln Dried’ or ‘KD’ has been put on the wood or its packaging; or

ii. in the case of isolated bark, that it has been subjected to an appropriate treatment against bark beetles.

Zone: United Kingdom, Ireland and Greece

Species: coniferous wood and isolated bark of conifers

Requirements: the wood shall be bark-free, or accompanied by an official statement (plant passport) confirming that:

(a) it originates from an area known to be free from Ips duplicatus; or

(b) in the case of

i. wood, that it has been kiln dried to below 20% moisture content and a mark of ‘Kiln Dried’ or ‘KD’ has been put on the wood or its packaging; or

ii. in the case of isolated bark, that it has been subjected to an appropriate treatment against bark beetles.
