Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How will my visit be affected?

For safety reasons customers will be kept away from areas where harvesting is underway but we’ll be working to minimise this impact. The harvesting programme has been carefully planned and scheduled to have the least impact on forest users as possible.  However, the dynamic nature of harvesting and the market means that this will be subject to change. The updated programme schedule can be viewed and you can keep up to date with diversions through the High Lodge Today page.

Why are you doing this work now?

The work is dictated by the forest cycle meaning crops are thinned and felled in a rotational pattern. The movement of Timber once harvested out of the forest is reliant on the current market. However, it is recognised that High Lodge is a busy visitor centre so to minimise the impact on customers harvesting will start from November 2013. Operations may be affected by weather conditions at this time of year which may affect the schedule.

Will all facilities and services be available all the time?

It will be necessary to divert sections of trails that run through harvesting sites and in some cases close the trail. We will only close the trail if it is absolutely necessary. For live updates on this please visit our service and facility page.

Is it safe for me to visit High Lodge during these works?

Yes.  All we ask is that you follow the information, diversions and safety signage on site.

If Services and facilities are affected, will I still have to pay Site entry?

Yes.  The money we receive from site entry is used to run High Lodge and to maintain the various facilities available. However in the unlikely event that the level of disruption is such that customer visits are significantly affected, then we may look to suspend Site Entry Payment.  For info see our Service & facility status section.
