Chopwell Wood Cycle Trails

Whether you've just bought your first bike, or you're happy racing over roots, Chopwell Wood offers a fantastic opportunity for natural cycling.

1. Young cyclists and family trails

Learn to ride your bike in the forest! Cycling in the forest is one of the safest and most relaxing ways to pick up confidence and develop cycling skills.

Cycling with the family in Chopwell Woods is a perfect way to relax and build up confidence on your bike. Take to our forest roads and blue trail and explore the beauty of the woods. The forest roads are well surfaced and traffic free - there's no better place for young cyclists!

2. Cross Country & Downhill Mountain Biking

Ready for a challenge of technique and skill? Craving your next adrenaline fix?

  • A network of Blue graded trails offer a gentle off-road experience. These follow the extensive forest road network and make a great introduction to mountainbiking
  • The Red graded Powerline Mountain Bike Trail is a fast, technical red which will leave you grinning ear to ear!

3. Facilities, events, and things to look out for

  • Print a map before you go - available to download here
  • Don't forget, Chopwell is nearby to the North's one of the Super 6, so if you're a keen rider try your hand at visiting all 6!
  • Scattered throughout the wood are picnic tables, benches and a host of fascinating sculptures. An information board in the main car park helps you orientate yourself.
  • Volunteering - If you want to get some fresh air and make a difference in your local forest, please email Darren Best or call 01388 488312 for a chat about volunteering opportunities.
