Learning at Salcey Forest

Salcey Forest is the ideal place for all kinds of outdoor learning.

Self-guided Visits

If you are planning a visit to Salcey Forest, before setting a date please contact us for further details and how to book. Whether you are wanting to use our "Ranger in a Bag" or simply walk around the trails, our learning team will be able to help you to plan and prepare for your visit. After booking we will keep you up to date with any forestry activities that may be happening on site.  You can contact us via e-mail 

For health and safety reasons groups attending without a booking may be refused access to the site.

Ranger in a Bag

If you are interested in exploring the woodland as a self guided class you may be interested in our Ranger in a Bag provision. Designed by the Forestry Commission with teacher in mind these bags can be hired and provide the resources for one class. Choose from;

  • Minibeasts
  • Shelter Building
  • Sensory Explorers
  • Woodland Art
  • Animal Detectives
  • Fantastic Forests

Please note: We do not allow pond-dipping type activites at Salcey as the water bodies are deemed unsuitable.

On-site facilities

Facilities available to schools include toilets (including disabled), which also used by the general public, a public picnic area, waymarked trails, coach parking and a café. There is currently no indoor provision for a class at Salcey Forest.
