 Learn to ride your bike

Wednesday 5th September

 Following the success of the last session, the British Cycling coaches will be back to help your little ones learn to ride.

10am– 11am & 11am - 12pm Learn to Ride Your Bike

Join the British Cycling coaches for a fun session that will help children gain the confidence to ride on 2 wheels.

1pm-2pm Go-Ride Activity Session

For older children and young people to improve their bike handling and learn some fun new skills.

 Not got a bike or would like to try our British Cycling bikes? We have a small selection of balance bikes and bikes to use. Please let us know if you would like to borrow one when you book.

Forestry Information Stall
Wednesday 22nd, Saturday 25th and Wednesday 29th August, 10am - 1pm

Salcey Forest is a working forest, where we harvest some of the trees to produce responsibly managed timber.

 Gruffalo Orienteering

Available everyday, £1.50 (card payments only)

Have a go at our Gruffalo themed orienteering course suitable for children up to 8 years old. Orienteering is a fun navigational challenge and involves a healthy mix of physical activity and decision making. Kids will love the excitement of using a simple map to try and find twelve Gruffalo markers in the forest.

You can buy the Gruffalo orienteering map, £1.50 (card payments only), from Salcey Forest Centre Information point between 10am and 2pm daily. Details on how to contact the rangers out of these times will be posted at the information point.

Nordic Walking

Every Tuesday, 9am - 10am

Improve your health and wellbeing with a new activity; explore the Forest on a walk led by a British Nordic Walking instructor. For further information about costs and to book your place please visit 

Master those pedals

29th August, 10am - 3pm

Bring your balance bike or bicycle and learn to ride in our beginners' cycling area. The cycling area will be open every Wednesday until the end of August 2018. Suitable for children aged up to 8 years old.

Buggy Bootcamp

Wednesday 21st August, 11am - 12pm

£5 per session. Suitable for parents with babies in pushchairs from 6 weeks post natal.

Acorn Forest School Holiday Club

AcornForest School Holiday Club at Salcey Forest is run by qualified forest school leaders and offers a fun and engaging way for children aged 4-13 to explore the natural woodland environment, whilst supporting families with their childcare needs during school holidays.  

Activities Include:

Building dens, Natural Crafts, Mini-Beast Hunting and Nature Tracking,
Tool Use, Rope Swings and Rope Bridges, Scavenger Hunts, and lots more

Planning your own event in Salcey Forest

Running your own event

If you are thinking of holding any organised group event on Forestry Commission land you need to contact us in advance to ensure you have a safe and successful event.

A minimum of 8 weeks advance notice is required prior to your intended event date but the longer the better to ensure good planning and to accommodate changes.
