Explore Clipsham Yew Tree Avenue
(Average user rating: 2 unrated 2/5)

Clipsham Yew Tree Avenue is a unique collection of 150 clipped yew trees, most over 200 years old, and is the only one of its kind in Europe. The Avenue was once the carriage drive to Clipsham Hall, the centre of the Clipsham Estate. A small car park gives year-round access to the Yew Tree Avenue.

I have just visited the Clipsham yew avenue, and was amazed to see it was mostly clipped in name only.

Have you stopped pruning it? Some of the trees look as though they are slipping out of control and shape. A few have been clipped to head height.

The management of the Avenue is currently under review, with the possibility of it being taken on by a third party. We are unable to say yet when the yews are likely to be clipped again. The "clipping" low down on each yew is actually where the deer are eating it, up to as far as they can reach. They can eat it with no ill-effects
