The Forestry Commission have worked in partnership for over 12 years with the Land Trust to manage a portfolio of 7 South Yorkshire Community Woodlands; Bentley Community Woodland; Brodsworth Community Woodland; Cudworth Common/ Ferrymoor Flash; Dinnington Community Woodland; Kiveton Community Woodland; Phoenix Park and New Park Springs.

From the 1st October 2016 The Forestry Commission will no longer manage these sites. The new site managers will be TCV (The Conservation Vol...unteers) The Land Trust will remain the land owners.
Our involvement in helping to create these woodlands and provide expert knowledge in forestry and sustainable land management started over 15 years ago when Yorkshire Forward and the Homes and Communities Agency started to look at South Yorkshire for possible sites to turn derelict land into community open spaces. The South Yorkshire Community Woodlands were then born, in 2003 when Phoenix Park, Bentley and Brodsworth were planted. The newly formed organisation of The Land Restoration Trust in 2004 took on the ownership of these sites to hold them in perpetuity of the local communities.
The Forestry Commission continued to manage these sites on behalf of the Land Trust, taking on a further 5 sites over the next 3 years.

The Forestry Commission are immensely proud to have been involved in the development of these sites for such a long time. We helped take them from black ex-colliery spoil heaps, helped to landscape and plant them and watched them grow into maturing woodlands, full of wildlife and flora. The whole team have enjoyed working to develop these sites and an extensive range of community, learning, health and volunteering projects over this time. We’ve had such great support and involvement from the local communities; we really couldn’t have done it without you.

So a BIG thank you to everyone who has attended an event, walked, run or cycled on site, volunteered and made us laugh over the years!

We really hope you continue to enjoy them and offer TCV and The Land Trust the fantastic support you have given us.
