Explore Raptor Viewpoint
(Average user rating: 4 unrated 4/5)

A small car park and easy access path lead to the Raptor Viewpoint which gives fine views over Troutsdale for birdwatching.

The site is located high above a valley in an area that is regularly used by passing birds of prey.

There are seats at the site. A 'log' of sightings is maintained in a box on the end of one of the seats.

What do other visitors say?

Hi my Wife and I will be visiting Yorkshire in June from Essex. I am a keen photographer and I am really keen on getting some shots of raptors and honey buzzards. I understand that the Raptor viewpoint is good for this. Any tips that could help us would be really appreciated . Thankyou

It is indeed a great spot for spotting the raptors and has some purpose built seats just for the job!

Had a fantastic goshawk encounter while cycling the Dalby Forest red trail about 2km below the top car park. Crested a small rise on the track and startled a goshawk on a fresh wood pigeon kill, right in the middle of the trail. Don't know who was more surprised, me or the hawk, which quickly flew away into the forest. Hope it went back for a meal afterwards.

Great to hear your experience, thanks!

Visited early morning 15/07/2017 - could not see the sightings 'log' - is this still meant to be on the end of one of the seats? I think I was too early for any raptors but a couple of crossbills flew past. I'm sure I will visit again when next in this part of the UK.

Thank you for your comments. We are unsure about the location of the log but we will look into this.
