Explore Raptor Viewpoint
(Average user rating: 3 unrated 3/5)

A small car park and easy access path lead to the Raptor Viewpoint which gives fine views over Troutsdale for birdwatching.

The site is located high above a valley in an area that is regularly used by passing birds of prey.

There are seats at the site. A 'log' of sightings is maintained in a box on the end of one of the seats.

What do other visitors say?

If we were to visit at the end of June - what time would you recommend for the best chance to see Birds of prey? Obviously - there are no guarantees!

Richard Hollis, 14/Jun/2017

Thanks for the comment Richard. Unfortunately with wildlife watching there is no specific time that we can advise. Patients is required and weather can affect the birds patterns on a daily basis. Good luck and hope you have good sightings!

The vegetation is blocking out a lot of the views, especially if you are sitting on the wonderful seats. Not much seen apart from a distant Buzzard and some Crossbills.

Otherwise a great location.

Vic Cozens, 20/Jul/2016

Thank you for your comments, we will look at the vegetation on our next inspection of the area.

Please could you let me know if the Nightjars have returned to Wykeham this year.. We came up on Sat. Evening and looked at the area beyond the Nurseries where they were last year and also opposite the Raptor Lookout car park. But did not see or hear any. If they have returned where should we look. Thank you. Helen
