When walking back from Helmsley to Newgate Bank I was told that I could not use forestry commission tracks to access the moor at OS 579887 and that I could not use any of the Forestry commission land other than public footpaths. Is this right ?

Thanks for the comment. Many of the Forestry Commission woodlands are dedicated as open access under CROW which allows the freedom of access by foot where there are no constraints. Please contact our office if you require clarification on 0300 067 4300
