Follow this trail through Haye Park Wood. This part of the Forest is full of quarries, charcoal burning platforms, saw pits, holloways (ancient sunken cart tracks), a deer park pale and an Iron Age/ Romano British settlement. All reminders that the woods were once alot busier than they are today.
Over the coming decades this area will be reverted to a woodland of mixed native trees as part of the Forestry Commission's commitment to biological diversity and cultural heritage.

Please don't forget the 'heritage' element provided by the 90 years input by the Forestry Commission in the rush to convert our forests back to what we think they once were. For example please don't grub out the glorious Douglas Firs at Black Pool to plant hazel and dubious origin 'wild' cherry.
