Blackwater Arboretum and Tall Trees Trail Map

Trail description

Visitors on the all abilities trail in Blackwater Arboretum. Rhinfield. New Forest FDThe Blackwater Arboretum, a short walk from Blackwater car park houses a beautiful collection of trees from many countries.

The sensory trail encourages people to use their senses to discover the many different smells, textures and sounds of these trees.

The path is a fairly smooth gravelled surface with one very gentle slope and frequent resting places. Short level paths with seats and picnic tables make this a pleasant destination in any season.

What do other visitors say?

30 years ago I lived in the new forest. We have come back visiting this year and I am confused. I remember that the tall trees walk was a longer walk amongst the big red wood trees and there were a couple of shorter walks round the blackwater stream. I remember them as being marked with coloured rings on the top of posts and you could choose a longer or shorter route. They meandered through the woods with small wooden footbridges over streams. Please tell me what happened to those walks, when and why? I believe it was called the Blackwater walk and it holds special memories for us as it was where my husband proposed to me, and we couldn't find it sad.

Forestry Commission Response

Let us know about good old pubs with character around that area. We are coming with 4 yr old children. So pubs are not the first priority. We might have a picnic

Thank you for your question. There are many pubs with character in the New Forest, however you may wish to visit the following website as this site has details of many of the pubs in the area, as well as links for some of the pub websites. There is also a handy feature which will show the pub locations on a map, so you can find one close the where you are.
