Download the trail map (PDF)

The trail is best ridden in a clockwise direction. The trail takes you along the old Severn and Wye railway line, passing former stations at Drybrook Road, Cannop Wharf and Speech House. Remnants of former coal mines can be seen at Foxes Bridge, Lightmoor and New fancy.

If you want to develop your skills or try something a bit more technical, try the skills area at the start of the trail, or look out for six fun features as you journey around the forest.

For those that want a shorter route using a section of the Family Cycle Trail should try the Hicksters Way Loop.  This circular trail is 8km / 5 miles long, starting and finishing at either Cannop Cycle Centre or Beechenhurst Lodge.  Follow the Family Cycle trail to Drybrook Road Station and then follow the Hicksters Way arrows back to your start point.

Connecting 'link' routes to villages, towns and picnic sites are marked in pink.

No horseriding on the trail please.

Events such as the Wyedean Car Rally (November) and Half Marathon (March) will affect the Family Cycle Trail, dates/information will be posted on this page in advance.

Hidden Heritage App

If you are interested in learning more about the heritage of the forest download this app from iOS and Android.  Use fading 'then and now' images of locations along the trail.

Cycled the path today being 68 years young we complted it with a couple of stops fro a drink in about 90minutes. Of course the Forest of Dean burger makes a great ending.

The trail as always in good condition with repairs being carried out.5DH

Great family day out in the forest. Hired by cycles which were in great condition unlike parents. Little mountain bike excursions just off trial for the kids to experience. Great lunch on route at Nettlehurst? Kids already want to go again, parents still recovering. Highly recommended.
