Explore Folkes Lane Woodland
(Average user rating: 5 unrated 5/5)

Thames Chase family Sledging at Folkes lane WoodlandFolkes Lane Woodland is another hidden gem, tucked between the A127 and M25, and is well worth a visit for the stunning views alone. The site is situated on former arable fields grouped around a steep hill.

From its top are vistas south over the River Thames to the North Downs and west across London’s Docklands and Canary Wharf. On a good day you can see as far as the O2 at Greenwich and the London Eye.

Its hillsides provide some fairly strenuous exercise opportunities whilst a small wet area for amphibians and a hilltop picnic spot provide the perfect stopping points to get your breath back.

Over 90,000 native trees are steadily growing on site, providing a welcome screen to the neighbouring M25 motorway.

A really hidden gem. I've lived within 1/2 mile of this park since before it was created and didn't know of its existence until a couple of weeks ago. From a personal perspective the only issue I can come up with is the lack of a path alongside the M25 through to the entrance of Tylers Wood, which I assume is down to land ownership, as this would then give access to Tylers common, Harold Court Wood and Pages Wood. Although there are road routes via Tomkyns Lane and Beredens Lane unfortunately they are too dangerous with two boisterous GSD's.

Thanks for the great comments Richard. Unfortunately the issue with the path is exactly as you say with the only access currently via Berendens Lane or by crossing the public footpath to Tomkyns Lane

Came upon Folkes Lane Woodland whist using the caravan storage further down.Great views and lovely forest walk and serene once you ignore the M25. Do cross the motorway and follow the bridleway and lanes to Warley. Recently moved to the area and all of the Forestry sites are great....try them all.

Thanks Steve - Its amazing to think that the M25 is just a stones throw away when you are taking in some of the views at Folkes Lane. You should take in the view just around the corner at Tylers Wood too!

It is a real gem.Cross the bridge over the M25 for stunning views but beware of pollution and noise

Thankyou for the review Doug. There are a lot of amazing hidden woodlands within a stones throw of the M25. Try Tylers Wood which is also close to Folkes Lane. Scott - Community Ranger
