Trail description

Enjoying the view from Revelin Moss in WhinlatterThe mighty Grisedale Pike dominates Revelin Moss, even though the area provides some of the easiest walking in the forest. The trail follows the quiet activity of Grisedale Gill, through mature conifers and areas of silver birch regeneration. The route returns via a bridge over the Gill and there are numerous resting places on route. Maps for this trail are available at the visitor centre.

This is a very favourite trail for us and the dog - but we would love to know what is the species of the beautiful little fir just upstream of the first bridge, true right bank. Elegant foliage, little round cones at the end of the 'twigs,' coloured red bark - Japanese Red Maple???

Great to hear you and your dog enjoy walking at Revelin Moss. The tree you refer to is Japanese Cedar, Cryptomeria Japonica. We have very recently replaced the plaques with the species information for all the trees planted as part of the arboretum collection in 1992 so please take a look next time you walk the trail.
