Explore Waterdale
(Average user rating: 5 unrated 5/5)

Waterdale is a fantastic mix of native woodland, wildflower meadows and ponds, criss-crossed by a path network suitable for walking, cycling or horse riding.

Formerly home to Bunkers Hill Dye Works and Molyneux Bleach Works, right up until the 1970s. The iconic 13 Arches (Clifton) viaduct runs over the top of the site, with the former Yorkshire & Lancashire railway line now hosting the National Cycle Network 6 and the Irwell Sculpture Trail.

Waterdale links into Phillips Park, Prestwich Clough, Drinkwater Park, Forest Bank and Rhodes Farm.

There's loads to keep you occupied on your trip to Waterdale. Check out our Activities Page.

The mountain bike trail is graded as a blue family route with sections of red technical riding for the more experienced.

What do other visitors say?

I am a frequent visitor to Drinkwater and Waterdale parks but recently noticed the return of trial bikes in the area.

Mr. Greenhalgh, 16/Apr/2018

Thank you for getting in touch and it's great that you're out and about in Drinkwater and Waterdale so much. We report any incidents to the police when they occur and we'd be grateful if you could do the same. If you could report any incidents using the 101 number and obtain a crime reference number, we'd be very grateful. We can't be onsite 24 hours a day and so any assistance people can provide is really appreciated. Thanks again for contacting us and helping to protect this fantastic woodland.

Forestry Commission Response
5 Stars 5 Stars

Had a walk through here after well over 20 years, I was amazed at the change!

I spent much of my childhood in the area and remember it being very open and the odd industry/farm here.

Now all disappeared from plain view, but I intend to return to see if I can find some of it.

I must say how much I enjoyed it!
