Explore Robin Hoods Sidings
(Average user rating: unrated unrated)

A great path network runs through a mix of open grassland, young broadleaved plantation and one of the few lowland heath sites in Salford.

As the name suggests, the site was a railway sidings used to keep rolling stock and transporting coal from the collieries.  As the collieries closed, the need for the sidings diminished.

Fine views of Hurst Wood and the Irwell Valley are worth the trip in itself. Early risers may catch a glimse of the local deer population.

A footpath in the north west of the site leads downhill, under the trailway tracks, past the famous Pilkington Tiles factory and onto the former Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal.

Limited parking is available Off Wynne Avenue, Clifton, M27 8FU or at the bottom of Wren Avenue, Clifton, M27 8JJ
