We have a great events programme planned for 2018 with something for everyone.

Highway Rat Trail

For 2018 try our Highway Rat trail, based on the popular children’s book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

Join the Highway Rat on his forest adventure.  Follow the trail to complete fun activities and spot characters along the way.

Buy an activity pack for £3 from the Visitor Information Office and pretend to be a highway bandit!

Nice Work 10 Mile Run

Sunday 4th February

Join Nice Work for this brand new 10 mile race using the undulating paths and trails in and around Bedgebury National Pinetum & Forest.

The event is open to runners of all abilities, from novices to experienced athletes, and is perfect for spring marathon training.  Medals and finish line goodies will be on offer to all finishers and there will be prizes to be won for leading men and ladies plus various age categories.

A 5 mile race option will also be available for anyone interested in a gentler challenge!

The race will start at 9am.

Entries can be made online at www.nice-work.org.uk.  Entry fee includes Bedgebury vehicle admission.

Buggy Running

Sunday 25th February

Buggy Running is a great way to enjoy the benefits of outdoor exercise without the need of costly childcare!  Not only is it fun and sociable, it’s the perfect opportunity to burn off those calories through a safe and effective workout, relieve stress and boost your mood!  Choose to walk, jog or run with your little one as you follow a 5k off-road trail.

Meet adjacent to the Go Ape cabin to start, sessions will run from approx. 8.30am to 11am.  Entries can be made online at www.buggyrunningevents.co.uk.

Entry fee costs £12.50 and includes timing chip, medals, certificate and sticker set.

Bedgebury vehicle admission fee applicable to non-members.

Volunteer Recruitment Day

Saturday 3rd March

Drop in to the Visitor Centre between 10am and 2pm to discover how you could make a real difference to our visitors at Bedgebury.

Visitor Experience Volunteers play a key role in meeting and greeting visitors, assisting with queries and giving them directions and advice.  Meet other volunteers and find out how your time could help others get the most out of their visit to Bedgebury.

Benefits include free vehicle admission on the day of volunteering, a tea or coffee, volunteer uniform and an invite to the annual volunteer “thank you” BBQ plus other volunteer events and training days.

Bedgebury National Pinetum Habitat Trail & Spring Photo Snapshot Activity

Monday 9th – Friday 13th April

Bedgebury National Pinetum is a fantastic place for wildlife to live!

Follow our habitat trail which guides you through the Pinetum to discover some of the fascinating wildlife living here and test your skills as a top class wildlife spotter!

No need to book, just drop-in to the Visitor Centre between 10am and 2pm.

Cost £2 per child.  Children should be accompanied by an adult.  Bedgebury vehicle admission fees apply.

Whilst enjoying your visit to the Pinetum, why not capture the theme of ‘Bedgebury in Spring’ in a smartphone photo?  We would love to see your favourite images so upload them to Twitter using the hashtag #BedgeburyInSpring.

Dawn Photography (Postponed from Nov 2017)

Saturday 21st April

An exclusive opportunity to join award-winning photographer, David Jenner, as he leads a small group into the Pinetum to take photographs during the ‘golden hour’ of the morning.  David will share his knowledge and give advice on how to take great pictures in challenging light.

The walk will be followed by a post-production classroom session where David will demonstrate how you can make your images even more spectacular using Adobe Lightroom.

Participants should bring their own DSLR, or similar full function bridge camera, and a tripod.  Hot drinks and breakfast pastries included.

Limited numbers - don’t miss this chance to see the Pinetum at its glorious best!

The event will start from the Visitor Centre at 5.30am and finish approximately 11am.

Smartphone Photography

Friday 27th April

Almost everyone these days has a smartphone, but how many of us know how to use our phone cameras to get stunning photographs?  Professional photographer, Lisa Hills, will lead a photographic walk round the Pinetum to show you how to take superb photos using your phone.

Pushchairs and toddlers are especially welcome on this course to ensure you have your own personal child models to practise on!

The workshop will start at the Visitor Centre at 10am and will last approximately 2 hours.

Dawn Chorus Walk

Sunday 29th April

Join local wildlife guide and bird expert, Simon Ginnaw, as he leads a small group around the Pinetum at sunrise.  Simon, whose expertise is bird identification and behavioural ecology, will unravel the complexity of the Pinetum’s bird song and, hopefully, find a star bird or two, such as the beautiful firecrest.

The walk will start from the Visitor Centre at 5am and will last approximately 3 hours.
