If you are looking for experience in conservation survey skills then there are different opportunities that you can get involved in at Grizedale, these can include; tree surveys to look for evidence of the (Great spruce bark beetle), Rhododendron surveys and surveying for evidence of Hylobius (Large pine weevil).
You need to be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions and on your own. Full training will be given, and you will gain experience in different survey techniques. You will have access to a dedicated volunteer room, where there will be hot drinks and biscuits available at all times!
Committing to a regular slot would be needed but this could be as little as once a month, you will need to have your own transport. After 35 hours you will receive an annual parking permit for Grizedale (obviously you don’t need to pay for parking when you are volunteering). This work will help us to manage and look after the forest for the future, so come and get involved and help make a difference!
