Been on the tackeroo site this weekend with our caravan as we were seeing Paloma faith concert on the Friday night, great site because you are able to pitch up anywhere on the site allowing plenty of space around our van. This felt a little like wild camping and it was a welcome relief from the usual commercial sites shoe horning people into tight spaces. The only negative comment I can think of is the fresh water taps are pathetic, when you are trying to fill a 40l water barrel up using a tap with no hose fitting and incredibly low water pressure and on top of that having to keep the button pressed in is hard work and time consuming, these taps need changing.

But overall a great site and we will be coming back again.

Just had a lovely weekend at Tackeroo. (We took the chance of visiting during a rare public opening time). When we arrived at 5pm on the Friday, we were the only campers and for the whole weekend, there must have been fewer than 20 overall. My feeling is that people voted with their feet - with the price per night at 15 - and not really good value for money. We wondered if the Forestry Commission are angling to close the site permanently to the public - by continuing to reduce opening times and increasing prices - campers will dwindle and then it would be declared that there's no call for it to be a campsite??? (We noted, with interest, the place has now been renamed an 'event' site!) We've been regulars for almost 10 years and feel very sad about this. Please Forestry Commission - don't just concentrate on the bottom line - think about the health and well being value this place has for families of all ages!

We are glad you enjoyed your stay at Tackeroo. Camping fees for Tackeroo have not been increased in over 7 years, however due to ongoing increases in operating costs we have had to increase camping fees to allow us to maintain high standards. The decision to only accommodate camping on the site for a limited period of the year has only been taken after careful consideration of how we make best use of everything we have to offer in the Cannock area. When not used for camping, Tackeroo is used for events and other activities, which often peak over the summer. The running of events in this area of woodland are part of Forestry Commission objectives to provide more opportunities for people to benefit from the forest by participating in sport, community, social, health and wellbeing activities with money generated being invested back into forest management. When the need came to replace the signage we decided to reflect the varying uses of Tackeroo and avoid confusion for visitors.

We love staying here although haven't been for the past couple of years as the dates of opening hardly matched our time off.this was always our first visit of the season. I notice the price has increased, but still think it's good value considering the beautiful surroundings.
