Trail description

View over the Bedburn valley. Hamsterley forest

This is the longest of the Bedburn walks and also the most rewarding. Initially following the same route as the Yellow Walk, the trail descends into the valley near The Grove and picks up the line of an old drover’s road. This road passes the ruins of Metcalf’s House, once a coaching inn with stables. Once back at the forest drive, watch out for the ‘Green Man’, a sculpture showing the faces of the three ages of this mythical forest dweller.

Did this walk today. Loved it apart from that steep hill. Thought my heart was going to come out of my chest so unfit haha but I will be back regular. Loved the humour of the writing on the hill. I certainly agreed with the text lol.

i have to agree with others. This route is poorly marked. We missed the start of the walk off to the left opposite the visitor centre and ended up doing the walk back to front as none of the maps said where to start. For the first half of the walk we saw two orange arrows if we were lucky and ended up going off in the wrong direction. Once we got to the second half other walkers put us on the right track. It wouldn't take much to dab some orange paint on a few trees to aid with direction. Oh and we never saw The Green Man yet!

Did this walk yesterday and I can only think they have improved the signing as it was very clear and impossible to get lost if you are paying attention. Enjoyed the walk.
