Archaeological monuments

Discover numerous archaeological sites as you explore Bellever.

Wildlife

Bellever has a fascinating range of wildlife, including Dartmoor Ponies.

The Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust is a registered charity dedicated to the preservation of the Dartmoor pony breed. Their Pedigree and approved Heritage Dartmoor Ponies graze the forest, helping to keep the vegetation down and create diverse grassland areas for wildlife. It is important to keep all gates shut in order to prevent cross-breeding with ponies from the surrounding area. Please do not feed the ponies.

Car Parking charges

Cars and motorbikes pay £1 for up to two hours and £2 for over two hours.  There is a flat rate for minibuses of £4.

Downloadable audio walks

Visit the National Park's website for free downloadable audio walks for Postbridge and Bellever.

What do other visitors say?

I have in the past walked the Believer trail and it is lovely but I am limited with how far I can walk. So increasingly I cycle on a touring bike. I note from both the leaflet and this website that cyclists are welcome on the stoned paths but you give no detail for me to know what is stoned and what is not, poor communication! I would like to cycle the Lich way and the Postbridge trail but can I without a mountain bike?

Paul, 7/Dec/2016

Apologies for this delayed response. You are welcome to cycle your bike around Bellever and as stated in the leaflet the forest road network is all stoned. The route of the Postbridge Trail, marked with yellow posts in the forest is located entirely on forest roads therefore you can ride your bicycle on this route. The route of the Lich Way through Bellever is mainly unsurfaced therefore I would not advise trying to cycle this without a mountain bike. Thank you, for pointing out the fact we do not mention this on the leaflet or on our website - something that we will rectify.
