Trail description

Westonbirt Arboretum is home to 100 of the world’s most threatened trees, discover some of them and learn about the work we do to preserve them with our Little Book of Disappearing Trees

Humans have always had an intimate relationship with trees, we rely on them to produce oxygen, clean the soil, and provide habitat for the world’s wildlife.

Sadly today some trees are in danger of disappearing due to human activity; urbanization, timber exploitation, habitat loss and the increased global spread of pests and diseases are just some of the threats they face. But their disappearance is not inevitable, and we still have time so do something about it!

Discover some of these threatened trees with the Little Book of Disappearing Trees, available for free from the Welcome Building at Westonbirt Arboretum; see a few of the world’s rarest trees, learn how the arboretum is working to protect them, and discover how you can help.

Pick up your free booklet from the Welcome Building, and then head out into the Old Arboretum and Silk Wood to see these threatened trees for yourself.
