This autumn, stay active and socialise with like-minded people with our series of over-55s active forest events. These events give you an exclusive chance to try something new in the forest.

Alice Holt (Surrey)

3-Day Bike Development Courses

What: A local cycle coach will be your guide as you build confidence in cycling over a 3 day course. Open to all users and abilities aiming to back onto their bikes. A great chance to socialise on the bikes, and over coffee and a cake!
When: Choose from one of the 3-day sessions below:

  • Option 1: 2nd - 4th Sept 1-3pm (standard & electric cycles) 6 spaces
  • Option 2: 9th - 11th Sept 1-3pm (adaptive fleet) 6 spaces
  • Option 3: 16th - 18th Sept 9:30-11:30am (all users) 6 spaces

Delamere (Cheshire)

Introduction to off road cycling: 4-Week Programme

What: Whether you're a seasoned rider, or want to build confidence after a long time out of the saddle, this introduction to off road cycling will take you along the fire roads with an instructor.
When: Monday 4th - Monday 25th September
Book now: 4 weeks £20 if bringing own bike, or £48 if wanting to hire the bike for an hour. £7 pay as you go if bringing your own bike, or £15 pay as you go if you want to hire a bike.

Bikes Demo Day

What: This demo day will give you a chance to learn about electric bikes and lighter bikes, plus you'll have a chance to try them out on an easy route mapped out nearby.
When: Saturday 30th September
Book now: No booking required. Free of charge (usual parking fees apply).

Active Forest Festival of Sport, Health and Well Being

What: A chance to see what sports and fitness activities are available locally. Local sports clubs, groups, associations, along with various national governing bodies come along to showcase what they offer.

Haldon Forest Park, Exeter (Devon)

Electric bike taster rides & demos

What: 'Bike In' are offering e-bike taster rides & demos all day, promoting starter packages on clothing and bikes. With a great range of branded e-bikes including Moustache, BH, Ghost & Mondraker all using the leading e bike systems from Bosch, Yamaha, Shimano & Brose. Come and have a go and find out how an electric bike can help ease you back into cycling. Electric bikes can give you the confidence to get out and go further whilst helping to build you your fitness.
When: 'Bike In' will be around every Saturday and Sunday throughout September
Book now: All bikes will be available to try for free round Haldons cycle trails. There's no need to book, you'll find 'Bike In' next to the Ridge Cafe.

Forest Cycle Hire: Introduction to Mountain Biking. Guided ride

What: Join us at Haldon Forest Park for an introduction to mountain biking for all levels of rider. Mountain bikes, helmets and gloves provided. Your session will be led by a qualified mountain bike instructor through stunning forest trails, ride time one hour.
When: Wednesday 20th and 27th at 10am - 11:30am

Guided bike ride around Haldon's Hidden Hills

What: Join Forestry Commission Ranger Tim Powles on a gentle bike ride lasting 1 hour. Stopping along route to hear about Haldon’s long history, rare wildlife, fascinating geology and seeing some amazing views.
When: Thursday 7th September 10:00am - 11:00am.
Book now: Guided ride is free, normal parking charges apply. Bikes available to hire from Forest Cycle Hire or bring your own. Book your place by calling 0300 067 5826.

Guided electric bike rides

What: Learn more about electric bikes by enjoying a guided ride led by Bike In every weekday around Haldon's beautiful cycle trails. Rides will be tailored to your ability.
When: Every week day through September on the following time slots; 08.30, 12.00, 15.30 and 19.00.

High Lodge, Thetford Forest (Norfolk)

Guided rides

What: ‘BikeArt’ will be leading guided bike rides aimed at those wanting to get back on their bikes after time off. Higher levels of fitness are not required and it’s a fantastic way to explore the outdoors! If you're using your own bike make sure it is fit for purpose and safe to use.
When: 10:30am Oct 18th, 25th and Nov 1st, 8th at BikeArt

What: This demo day will give you a chance to learn about electric bikes and give you a chance to try them out. Get a 10% discount at the wonderful Siskins café afterwards too.
