Explore Willingham Woods
(Average user rating: 4 unrated 3.9/5)

Willingham Woods is part of a large complex of pinewoods that are located east of Market Rasen. This central section provides a range of recreational opportunities as well as an important source of timber.

There is a large car park and picnic site with a café and toilets in the adjacent layby owned and run by Lincolnshire County Council.

The wood is busy all year round but is especially during the summer months when holidaymakers use it as a break point when heading to and from the coast.

If you wish to organise an event in this wood then please check out this web page for how to do it.

Red Trail
  • Easy
The Red Trail goes past Willingham ponds once part of Willingham Hall and through pleasant mixed woodlands.

What do other visitors say?

Can you tell me why again the FC are felling very large mature trees, I hope not for Health and Safety reasons again which were a poor excuse and not fully explored reason last time. I understand primarily the FC are seeking profit but where are the impact surveys on the established habitat and wildlife when these trees are planned to be felled? Significant amounts of this chopped wood filters into the local market for sale! Do the FC not have to account for this?

The Forestry Commission manages woodlands for people, wildlife and timber. Willingham Wood is no exception. Every operation is well planned and managed to meet this statement. You can find out more from the Forest Plan pages www.forestry.gov.uk/forestry/INFD-9P9HJH. Willingham Wood's plan was approved in 2010 and will therefore be up for renewal/consultation in 2020. Any further questions please email and we will be happy to answer them.

3 Stars 3 Stars

This was a lovely site where we always had a picnic. However now some of the picnic tables have disappeared over on the far side and there are not enough litter bins - hence rubbish piled up. Disappointing!

Anonymous, 15/Aug/2016

The picnic tables were removed as they had been vandalised and had become dangerous. We hope to replace them in the future. We don't have the capacity to empty litter bins in the picnic area. Litter bins are provided in the layby by Lincolnshire County Council who empty them. We have an agreement with the kiosk in the layby to clear litter from the picnic area once a week. We are sorry you were disappointed and hope that future visits are more enjoyable.
