COMMON BUZZARD (Buteo buteo)The forest of Coed Sarnau has a long historical link with the abbey at Abbey Cwm - Hir and has a network of paths and track ways associated with the monks and pilgrimage travels. Much of the Forest's area was once covered in ancient woodland, some of the veteran trees of which still remain to this day.

Birds: The area provides some excellent scenery where Buzzards and other Raptors can regularly be seen gliding in the warm thermals, created by the rugged hills and valleys.

How to Get There:
From Rhayader take the B4518 to Pantydwr. Turn right on the minor road to Bwlch y Sarnau. At Bwlch y Sarnau continue straight on to Abbey-cwm-hir.
