Mammals: You may be lucky enough to glimpse some fallow deer that browse amongst the higher conifer plantations. At night Bats flutter through the valley. Birds: Ancient oakwoods along the riverside provide for a wide variety of birds, Redstarts and Blackcaps amongst them. Nightjar have been heard "churring" in the young plantations. How to get there:From Junction 40 of the M4 follow the A 4107 for approximately 6 miles, passing the village of Cwmafan. This will take you into the heart of Afan Forest Park.
