BUZZARD AT NEST WITH YOUNGAlthough predominately a single species coniferous wood, Glasfynydd offers pleasant views of the Usk reservoir and neighbouring Black Mountains.

Mammals: Badgers, Red Deer, Otters, Watervole, polecats, hares, foxes, bats(a number of bat species). We have information about Red deer, Badger and Otter

Birds: Red Kite, Sparrowhawks, Goshawk, Buzzards, Merlins, Kestrels, Ravens, Ospreys (overwinter)
Curlews, WoodCock, Nightjar, Cuckoos, Barn owls, Little Owls, Warblers, Crossbills,. We have information about Nightjar, Red kite and Osprey

Insects and reptiles: Slow Worm, Grass Snake, Adders, A number of butterfly species, Red Wood Ants.

Habitats: Riparian Zones, Conifer Woodlands, Rides, Streams, Moorland edge, Ponds.

How to get there:
Follow A40 to Trecastle, then signs to the Usk reservoir. Glasfynydd wood surrounds the reservoir.

What's of interest
Holds one the largest populations of breeding Nightjars in Powys. In 2004 the Forestry Commission in partnership with Brecknock Wildlife Trust will be live-catching and radio-tracking Nightjars.

Nightjars are surveyed by counting the number of calling(churring) males this can only be done at Dawn and Dusk
