Clwyd forest sits on the Clwydian hills in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The Forest consists of three woodlands, Llangwyfan, Nercwys and Moel Famau, on the borders of Denbighshire and Flintshire, which have stunning views across North Wales and North West England.
Mammals: There are many different species of mammals to be found in the forest, most of them are after dusk hunters and seldom seen during daylight. These animals include Badgers, Foxes, Moles and Voles. We have information about Badger
Birds: The diversity of landscape of moorland and forest hosts many species of wildlife including Black Grouse, Raptors and small birds.
Ravens are frequently seen in the skies demonstrating their acrobatic abilities by performing their mirror displays during the breeding months. Breeding starts in February. The nest is usually on a sheltered ledge or in the fork of a tree. Building of the nest is done by both male and female, of large twigs, earth and moss, and lined with moss and wool. The female lays one clutch with 3-7 eggs which take approximately 20 days to hatch, the fledglings are ready to fly in 34-50 days.
The Raven is the largest member of Britain's crow family, larger than the Carrion Crow and Rooks. Feathers are black with a purplish sheen and it has a thick neck and a beard of shaggy throat feathers which are more pronounced when calling with a deep croaking "kronk kronk kronk". The Raven feeds on carrion, mammals birds, insects and eggs. We have information about Black grouse
