PAIR OF COMMON CROSSBILLS TENDING TO THEIR YOUNGCamilty Forest is a modern conifer plantation that straddles the Lang Whang (A70). It sits on the edge of the Pentland Hills Regional Park.

Mammals: You may spot roe deer as you wander through the forest or even a fox. We have information about Roe deer

Birds: Common crossbills are seen flying around in flocks above the tree tops or landing to feed on the seed in the cones. You could also see a common sandpiper flying along one of the small burns in the forest. Flocks of tits and goldcrests can sometimes be heard as they pick their way through the trees looking for bugs.

Habitats: Camilty Forest contains a small part of Cobbinshaw Moss Site of Special Scientific Interest which is an important site for intermediate blanket mire. There are many boggy areas of the forest, some open grassland areas and a few watercourses including the Water of Leith. We have information about Lowland bog

How to get there:
From Edinburgh, take the A70 (Lang Whang or Lanark Road).
About 12 miles from Edinburgh and past the Harperrig reservoir, you will find the forest spanning both sides of the A70.
