Borgie was one of the Forest Commissions' original plantings in 1920. All but 20 hectares of this forest was destroyed by fire in 1942. Scots Pine and Spruce that survived are now some of the tallest trees in Sutherland at over 100 feet tall. Borgie Forest with its network of attractive burns flowing off the open hill into the River Borgie is a haven for riparian zone wildlife. The Easanne and Allt an Tot burns have rich carpets of wild flowers along their banks in mid-summer and act as a food source for abundant insect life.

Birds: As you walk through the forest keep an eye open for the Buzzards, Osprey, Greenshank, Black Throated Divers, Dippers, Ptarmigan, Merlin or even Ravens wheeling above the trees. We have information about Golden eagle and Osprey
Habitats: The River Borgie is an important place for Atlantic salmon, so much so that the river has now been designated a SAC (Special Area of Conversation) - if you are looking at the River please take care not to disturb anyone fishing there. We have information about Pinewood
