Torrachilty is a large forest extending to approximately 3,300 hectares (7,200 acres). It mainly consists of Spruce and Pine trees but also contains beautiful pockets of native Ash, Oak and Birch woodland. The woods are home to various rare animals including wildcat and pine marten, and otters have been seen swimming in the small lochans in the middle of the forest.
Mammals: Look out for the Pine Marten and Wild Cat as you wander through this mixed woodland. We have information about Red squirrel, Red deer and Roe deer
Birds: These woods gives the observer a chance to spot Crossbill, Crested Tit and Buzzard.
How to get there:
Torrachilty Forest is located on the southern slopes of Ben Wyvis, leading down to the Highland villages of Strathpeffer, Contin and Garve.
The A835 road runs close to the forest, with these villages served regularly by bus services from Inverness, Dingwall and Ullapool.
Also, the train service between Inverness and Kyle of Lochalsh runs through the centre of this woodland.
