Of course they don't use sign's. Otherwise the deer would know what's going on......

Why are the forestry commission shooting the red deer out of season? I visited the glen earlier this month to take photos of them early one morning but saw a man shooting them. I thought I was safe to be in the nature reserve out with the open shooting season? Should there not be some signs or information about this?

Dr Ivan Jack, 25/Jun/2010

As per the Commission's deer management plans (and within current legislation and Industry Best Practice guidelines.), our teams are required to cull deer where this is required to keep the deer numbers in balance and to prevent severe damage being done to the natural environment and the wide range of habitats in the area. We don't use signs in our deer culling activities, however our teams are highly qualified professionals who - ever mindful of public usage of the National Forest Estate - always observe strict safety procedures.
