MATURE STAND OF DOUGLAS FIR WITH YOUNG REGENERATED TREESGuisachan forest is a mix of planted conifers with old estate plantings of Douglas fir, larch and giant redwoods interspersed with ancient Caledonian pinewoods. This a very beautiful and peaceful area with many opportunities for quiet recreation.

Mammals: Many animals thrive in Guisachan forest. There is plenty of food and shelter for them here. Small animals are difficult to see but you might spot deer at dawn and dusk. We have information about Red squirrel, Red deer, Roe deer and Badger

Birds: Guisachan forest is a great place for bird watching. There are many woodland birds to be seen here. Look out for siskins, tits, woodpecker, finches, Scottish crossbills, wrens, robins and many more. We have information about Osprey

Insects and reptiles: On warm summer days - look out for insects, slow worms and occasionally adders. We have information about Adder and Pearl-bordered fritillary

Habitats: There are scattered patches of Caledonian pinewood in Guisachan forest. These are being opened up and also encouraged to expand in area. We have information about Pinewood

How to Get There:
From the A831, take the unclassified road to Tomich. Guisachan Forest is two miles along the forest road after Tomich.
There is an infrequent bus service from Inverness as far as Tomich.
