The Great Glen forest is a patch work of conifer trees and broadleaved woodlands around both sides of the Great Glen. It's a very attractive backdrop to one of the most famous glens in Scotland. Loch Ness is here of course as well as the other lochs and rivers.
Mammals: Most of Scotland's woodland animals can be found in the Great Glen Forest. We have information about Red squirrel, Red deer, Roe deer, Badger and Otter
Birds: We have information about Golden eagle, Black grouse and Osprey
Insects and reptiles: We have information about Adder and Pearl-bordered fritillary Habitats: As well as the monster in Loch Ness, the Great Glen is known for the high proportion of woodland that grows along its shores and hillsides. This is a mixture of planted conifer woods and native deciduous woods of oak, ash, hazel, birch and other trees.
How to Get There: The Great Glen forest is along both sides of the Great Glen off the A82, the B852, B862 from Inverness and Fort Augustus.
