Wildlife at Tarbert and Skipness

Tarbert is the nearest town or village.

The forest stretches for 9 miles from the ancient Castle sitting above the picturesque harbour at Tarbert, over the hills to the small village of Skipness which looks out across the Kilbrannan sound to Arran.

Mammals: You can see Red squirrels in this forest, and if your lucky you might even spot a badger. We have information about Red squirrel and Badger

Birds: There are many bird species to be seen in this forest, black grouse and hen harrier to name but two. We have information about Black grouse

Insects and reptiles: Watch out for adders in the Summer. We have information about Adder

Habitats: From Atlantic Oak Woodlands to open heathlands you'll find the lot here. We have information about Upland oakwood

How to Get There:
Follow the A83 from Glasgow north and west to the Lochgilphead and then south to Tarbert.
