Torinturk Near Tarbert is the nearest town or village.

 This forest to the west of Tarbert runs down to the shore of West Loch Tarbert. Much of the forest having been first planted around 1940 has been felled and replanted. These more recently planted areas provide many large open grassy spaces that make ideal habitats for voles. This makes the forest a popular area for many birds of prey, which come here to hunt the voles.
A forest walk leads to ancient burial sites and a ruined Dun within the forest. From the trail you can look out over the young plantations down onto West Loch Tarbert and towards the hills of Arran and Islay in the distance.
Mammals: Shy roe deer may be glimpsed if you go quietly through these woods. We have information about Red deer and Roe deer
Birds: The Torinturk woods are still home to reasonably strong black grouse populations. We have information about Black grouse

How to get there:
From Lochgilphead follow the A83 south towards Tarbert. Torrinturk can be reached by taking the B8024 for Kilberry approximately 12 miles south of Lochgilphead or by travelling on through Tarbert. A right turn just south of the Tarbert takes you onto an unclassified road which rejions the B8024. Torinturk is about 4½ miles west from the junction of these two roads. The forest car park is accessed by the unsurfaced road on the right form the centre of the village.
