Wildlife at Pitfichie

Snow covered birch treesThis is a varied forest with cycling through a mixture of woodland and open hill. The forest has 2 cycle routes. One route goes over the top of Cairn William Hill and the other circles around the bottom of the hill. Both routes give excellent views of the Vale of Alford, Bennachie, Millstone Hill and towards Aberdeen!

Mammals: Roe deer often seen in the early morning . We have information about Roe deer

Birds: On the open moorland birds such as red grouse, pipits and occassional birds of prey (such as kestrel, opreys and merlins) can be seen. Osprey's nest close to the River Don not far from this wood.

Habitats: Good mixture of habitats from scots pine woodlands to open moorland.

How to get there:
From Monymusk follow the B993 towards Alford. The cycle routes are approximately 3 miles from Monymusk.
