Great Wood

(Average user rating5 unrated 4.6/5)

The Quantock Hills softly rise and fall from the north west of Taunton for some 12 miles towards the Bristol Channel. To the west of Bridgwater, just below the highest hills of the Quantocks, lies the magnificent Great Wood.

The woods provide ample opportunity for a range of recreational activities: enjoy a leisurely stroll along a waymarked trail; join a long distance endurance horse ride; or discover the forest on a bike. During the summer it can be a great place to escape from the busy roads and crowded beaches. There is even a short all abilities trail here for you to enjoy.

Discover the detective in you and try out Great Wood's very own Treasure Trail, Stumped? Trail cards cost £2 and are available to purchase from Taunton Tourist Information Centre or by calling 01392 834231.

The car park currently opens at 7am and is closed at 6pm daily.

Parking charges apply.  Cars - £1 for up to 2 hours or £2 for all day.  Minibuses - £4.  Coaches - £8.

Regular visitors can save money with a Discovery Pass.  £20 gives free parking all year as well as a range of other benefits.  Visit www.forestry.gov.uk/pass for more details.

The Forestry Commission shares a Ranger with the Quantock Hills AONB - Andy Harris.  Andy writes regular blogs, which often include news and information about Great Wood.  To read these visit http://www.quantockhills.com/blog/

**Please note that the toilet block at Great Wood is closed until further notice due to severe fire damage.  Temporary facilities are now in place.  Apologies for any inconvenience.**
