Wildlife at Dodd Wood Car Park

Dodd Wood
Cumbria
England
Keswick is the nearest town or village.
OS Grid Reference: NY 234283
Dodd Wood car park lies at the bottom of Skill Beck and is the starting point for 3 walks of varying distance including a strenuous route to the summit. The Dodd Wood Tearoom offers a wide range of home cooking. Alternatively bring your own food and enjoy a picnic under the magnificient Douglas firs. Opposite the car park is the entrance to Mirehouse. Set in beautifull grounds Mirehouse was once the home of James Spedding, a noted literary figure of the nineteenth century. Still in the Spedding family, the house is delightfully unspoilt and harks back to the heyday of the English country manor house. Open from April to October tickets are available from the tearoom.

Mammals: We have information about Red squirrel and Roe deer

Birds: The Lake District Osprey Project view point is open annually from April to late August/September, 7 days a week from 10am until 5pm . During this period Osprey project staff will be on hand to help visitors use the freely available telescopes and to explain about these wonderful birds. We have information about Osprey

How to get there:
By Road:
From Keswick take the A591 towards Bothel. The forest entrance and car park are on the right opposite Mirehouse.
By Rail:
Nearest station Penrith.
